Acebutolol

As Acebutolol is called a beta blocker. It is mainly used for diseases of the heart and blood vessels. The regulation of the heart function and the lowering of blood pressure are seen as primary goals of the intake.

What is Acebutolol?

Acebutolol is produced chemically on an organic basis. It belongs to the group of beta blockers. They are united by the purpose of blocking certain receptors in the human organism and thus influencing the functioning of the body.

Acebutolol is used to block the beta-1 receptors in the heart. This can be used to change the activity of the heart muscles. The preparation is one of the slow-acting drugs and only developed its effect after a few hours or even half a day.

It then remains in the body for up to 24 hours and normalizes the function of the heart and blood vessels. It is then excreted through the kidneys. The acebutolol can therefore be seen as the antagonist of increased adrenaline levels. The patient should experience an improvement - mostly a slowdown - in the activities of the heart.

Pharmacological effect

The causes of coronary heart diseases, cardiac arrhythmias and changes in blood pressure are mostly chronic. Their occurrence has not yet been fully explored.

Nevertheless, in addition to the hereditary triggers, more complex disease processes in the body should also be considered. Inhibiting each of these factors is usually associated with a disproportionate amount of effort and the risk of failure. Therefore, the acebutolol is used as a beta blocker. The remedy is said to form a complex with the receptors of the heart and blood vessels.

This influences the functional mechanism of the walls of the individual cells. On this basis, the activity in the heart and blood vessels can be normalized. The ability to contract in the heart muscle is reduced. The same applies to the heart rate and the speed of blood flow. Overall, the organism experiences a slowdown and stabilization of its work. An increased speed should be avoided.

Medical application & use

Acebutolol is used clinically and on an outpatient basis for the aforementioned coronary heart diseases, cardiac arrhythmias and pathological changes in blood pressure. In a few cases, the remedy is also given for angina pectoris. It is characterized by a feeling of tightness and pain in the chest and heart area.

Acebutolol can be used preventively in small doses, but also to avoid migraines and headaches. The spectrum of this beta blocker therefore extends far beyond the alleviation of heart problems. Of course, it is of great importance in therapy and for prevention against heart attacks. In addition, the prescription is very rarely used in the fight against addictive diseases. Here the acebutolol is supposed to lower cravings.

Corresponding clinical studies are available, but their use is only confirmed in a few exceptional cases. In general, the intake must always be accompanied by a doctor. Acebutolol can, due to its properties already mentioned, slow down the activities of the heart - but thereby trigger a health risk. The prescription and dosage must therefore be decided on a case-by-case basis.

Risks & side effects

In principle, Acebutolol must not be used in the case of renal insufficiency. Since the drug is broken down through the kidneys, this process could be inhibited. In addition, increased caution is recommended in the event of a fundamental weakness of the heart and the organism.

Otherwise, considerable health risks can be derived from ingestion. Prescription is also not recommended for diseases affecting the lungs. Asthma attacks could be triggered here. In addition, diabetics often experience a drop in blood sugar levels into a dangerous range.

In general, fatigue, increased irritability and a tendency for stomach problems can also occur. Diarrhea and vomiting are less common. The acebutolol is therefore generally well tolerated. If the symptoms mentioned above occur in individual cases, a change in dosage or ingestion habits can usually lead to an improvement.
