We explain what constancy is in a strict sense and as a virtue. In addition, the characteristics of a record as a document.
What is constancy?
The two different meanings of the word constancy have to do, each according to its measure, with the meaning of the verb constar, synonymous to consist, whose first definition according to the Royal Spanish Academy is "said of one thing: to be true or manifest."
This relationship between constancy and constar goes back to the origin of both words, which is the Latin word I will consist, formed by the prefix with- ("Union") and the verb stare ("Being detained or located in a place"). So the original sense of constancy had to do with immobility, staying unchanged, in the same place, whether real or figurative.
So that, in principle, that which is recorded is that which remains the same as itself, that which is not modified at the whim of anyone, that is, which is constant, which means that it is constant. Constancy has to do with what does not change course, with what is true to itself and which therefore, in a figurative sense, is true, it is true, it is real and manifest.
Hence, then, come the two precise meanings that we give to the word constancy, and that we will see separately.
The record as a proof or document
In everyday life, we often receive records, that is, documents of different types that take for certain, manifest and true, some transaction or a procedure that we have carried out. This is because, since it is written, the information cannot be changed at will, and the document is then a reflection of the truth from what has occured.
Thus, the documents issued by an office in which we have applied a request, for example, are proof, but so are the invoices that they give us when we make a purchase, and that we will later need in case our product is defective or requires any change: that invoice states that we are telling the truth about the purchase.
In this sense, we will often talk about registration certificates, purchase certificates, processing certificates, delivery certificates, and so on.
Constancy as a virtue of the individual
On the other hand, constancy is the virtue of being persistent in trying to achieve a goal, a objective or a role they want. Thus, someone persistent does not rest, does not change course and does not stop trying until, finally, he succeeds. Show determination commitment, certainty.
Consistency is highly valued in individuals, because it is often a guarantee of success. Not because constant people do not stumble, or do not face obstacles, but because their ability to stay in the same lane, without changing goals, eventually makes them overcome all difficulties and achieve what they had initially set out to do.
The opposite of a constant person, in this sense, is a fickle person, that is, unstable, fickle, uncertain, inconsistent.
