What is fidelity?

Fidelity is one of the most important virtues of human beings, especially when it comes to stable and lasting love relationships. Be true to person that one chose to share life is synonymous with I respect, understanding and commitment.

Fidelity implies a true connection to the source and is closely related to the loyalty. In the past, this concept was related to the fulfillment of duty and the fidelity of a person towards a lord or a king.

The word fidelity comes from Latin fidelitas and refers to the concept of serving a god. It relates to an ability of the human spirit to keep the promises we have made. Is a virtue that man has to keep his word.

Making a promise requires a great sovereignty of our spirit, since it implies make a decision about what we are going to do in the near or distant future (in promise mode) and commit to it. What will happen around this promise to fulfill something we cannot foresee, which is why fidelity is so important. No matter what happens, be it good or bad, faithfulness leads to fulfillment of what is promised.

A faithful person is capable of keeping his promise, regardless of whether he feels differently in the future, undergoes adverse situations or thinks differently. Even a person may regret having made a promise, but the one who keeps it is faithful despite everything. Whoever promises, is free and does it conscientiously.

Faithfulness in human relationships

A person who is faithful to the other is not capable of deceiving or betraying his loved ones. A human being that he is faithful, accepts his commitments and fulfills them. Fidelity is a moral value that makes the human being keep his word.

Sometimes this word is not explicit but is understood in context. For example, in a relationship, it is understood that both must remain faithful to the commitment of having chosen and not cheat, lie to each other or hurt each other. Fidelity goes beyond the mere action of deception (with another person, for example), it also implies respect and understanding of the other.

The unfaithful

An unfaithful person is one who breaks with the commitment established with a person to maintain a loving relationship with another. In this aspect, the promise of union is broken and whoever is unfaithful does not keep his word of commitment to the other.

From a religious point of view, those who do not profess the faith are considered unfaithful. religion or faith considered true, as for example in relation to Christianity or the Islam.

Faithfulness as a Roman God

The fidelity She was considered one of the Roman gods and it was Numa who first erected a temple and altars in her name. Flowers, incense and wine were offered to fidelity, but no victims could be sacrificed. The priests of those temples were covered by white veils that symbolized candor and wrapped their hands and head with a cloak when being driven in a cart to the place of sacrifice.
