What is reading?

Reading is placing ourselves in front of a text written and decode the message that the author wants to convey to us.

The reading it is a mental and visual process. In this process the meaning of a text is deduced, its content is interpreted, the message is understood, inferences and questions are made.

Reading is not just reproducing a text in soundsrather, it is an interactive activity. When we write a text we organize the content of our thought so that the other can understand it by reading.

Reading habits

It is important that as a child the habit to read. Today, children, with the impact of the new technologies, generally do not tend to embrace reading habits. Therefore, parents and teachers should make an effort to teach them to enjoy reading and reflect.

Reading methods

In punctual reading, only fragments of interest to the reader are read.
  • Sequential reading. It is the traditional way of reading a text, with our own time from the beginning to the end of a text without repetitions or omissions.
  • Punctual reading. In this case, only fragments that are from interest for the reader.
  • Diagonal reading. The reader reads the special fragments of a text such as the titles, the first sentences of the paragraphs, the words highlighted typographically, highlighted elements, such as quotes or formulas, and so on.
  • Scanning. It is a quick read of the text looking for individual words.
  • Fast reading. It is similar to the diagonal reading but seeks greater concentration.
  • PhotoReading. In it the reader reads a full page to get a general idea.

Whatever the way you read, it is necessary to take into account the importance of reading. A person who cannot read is called illiterate. The dyslexia, on the other hand, it is the inability of a person to read.
