We explain what vintage is, the popularity of these objects today and some examples of these antiques.

Vintage items can be very expensive at an antique store.

What is vintage?

The vintage refers to all those objects that are already a certain number of years old, but not enough to be classified as antiques. Generally, these items are restored and reused for decorative purposes.

The word vintage comes from the English language, it means vintage, term at the same time derived from French "Vendange", after altering your semantics and its pronunciation, even so it is currently recognized by the Royal Spanish Academy. We can pronounce it as "Vintich" or "vintash". Originally it was used to designate a wine that was characterized by its quality and the number of years it had been stored, which is why the best wines were labeled "vintage".

Within the vintage we can group Photographs, flowerpots, cars, clothing, books, musical instruments, etc. There are also items that are intended to be collected for the value they have, be it historical, aesthetic, functional or whatever. For example, clothing items from the early 1900s. The only condition is that the items are of good quality as long as they are at least twenty years old, predating the '90s. The most popular objects are always those from the '70s and' 20s.

Today vintage is very popular, many people decide to decorate rooms or the entire house in this way, with furniture and other antique objects, even imitating the style of a bygone era, using, for example, the color of the wall that was fashionable there or a wallpaper that follows that trend.

There are people who even decide to "move" to a previous time and live day to day like this, dressing as if they were in another weather and surrounding yourself with people who do too. Some go to such an extent that they don't even use current appliances or cars. Vintage fairs are held in all countries of the world where people gather to share experiences and time around this cultural scene.

Although vintage is often confused with retro or classic, because both refer to something past, it is not the same, since this second term is intended to refer to trends that existed in the past, although it is made using current items. On the other hand, vintage is yes or yes something that belongs to the past, it was created years or decades ago, but is in good condition. Let's take an example to make it much clearer: an old dress that you inherited from an aunt is something vintage, but a garment from a current designer that looks like that dress, in its style, although it was manufactured today, is retro.

As for the decoration itself, these products can be perfectly adapted to other styles if we know how to combine them well. Also, it would stand out a lot in a room where there is only one such object, such as a grandfather clock, a restored full-length mirror, or even an old rug in the center of the room. Some of the styles that mix objects or use them entirely in a room are: Shabby Chic, Eclectic, Art Deco and Rustic.

These types of objects can be very expensive if we buy them in an antique store, but remember that things that were made before had better quality because of the materials with which they were made and because they workers They made these crafts in small quantities, therefore the finishes and other details were much better done than you could find now. If you want to get good things for less money, you can turn to garage sales or flea markets.

Restored, reclaimed or recycled items are also considered vintage even if they are given a 180 degree turn to the color or other accessories. In this sense, we could say that these types of articles are eco-friendly, since they reduce the amount of annual productions and in the case of wooden objects, they help reduce the cutting of trees of different types.

In fashion, vintage seems to have made a comeback as well. Many designers have uploaded garments of this style to the catwalks. It seems that it is true that everything is used again at some point, since it is the phrase with which this movement is identified.
